Adoption Kittens

Thinking about getting a kitten? Why not adopt one of ours? Quite often the team at the Pascoe Vale Vet Hospital have kittens for adoption through our Cat Adoption Centre.

All our kittens have had a complete health check and temperament assessment. They are wormed, treated for fleas, desexed and micro-chipped as well as receiving their kitten vaccinations, both F3 (Feline Respiratory Disease and Feline Enteritis) and FIV (Feline Immune Deficiency Virus).

Take a 'bow', famous canines get their own 'Walk of fame'

The first ever permanent 'Dog Walk of Fame' has recently been unveiled in London! Honouring the legends of the silver screen such as Lassie, Toto (from the Wizard of Oz), Gromit (from Wallace and Gromit), Fang (from the Harry Potter movies) and more. Each year a new dog will join the 'walk' and be commemorated with a plaque and a bench at the heart of famous Battersea Park.

Microchipping now compulsory in Victoria

From May 2007 the State Goverment has legislated that it will be compulsory to have all newly registered dogs and cats microchipped. When obtaining registration at any local council, pet owners will be required to provide proof that their pet has been microchipped.

Study reveals link between pet ownership and reduced risk of gastroenteritis

A study of more than 900 children recently conducted in South Australia lends further support for the health benefits of pet ownership. The results from the study indicates that living in a household with a dog or a cat can be associated with a reduced risk of gastroenteritis.

Meats and mince diets high in preservatives cause concern

The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) has advised about the damaging affects of feeding dogs and cats pet meat or mince that are high in preservatives. Of main concern are meat products which contain high levels of sulphur dioxide, which is used to mask the smell and prevent discolouration of the pet food. The high levels of sulphur dioxide can effectively switch-off or inactivate the vitamin thiamine, which is vital for brain development.
